All Springfield Armory Sub-Compact Pistols
Reviews for the 8-shot Springfield Armory EMP in .40 Smith & Wesson. Nearly identical in form and function to the EMP-9. Includes ambidextrous safety, cross-drilled trigger, 3-dot combat sights, aluminum frame, and a stainless/black anodized bi-tone finish.
Given the 2007 American Handgunner “Gun of the Year” award, the Springfield Armory 9mm EMP is a compact 1911 pistol designed specifically to work with short action cartridges like the 9mm. Comes with three 9 round magazines, sports a lightweight frame, and bi-tone finish as well as a host of other upgrades.
The Loaded Micro Compact with its 3″ barrel and aluminum frame was the next evolutionary step in the sub-compact 1911 arena. Smaller and lighter than its predecessor, the Loaded Ultra Compact. It would eventually be succeeded by the enhanced Micro Compact Operator as well as the short-cartridge EMP pistol but remains the lightest sub-compact 1911 chambered in .45 ACP that the company makes.
At one time the 6 Round Loaded Ultra Compact 1911 pistol was the smallest gun that Springfield Armory made. It was soon eclipsed by the Micro Compact and eventually the EMP, but it still remains a high-quality, full-featured 1911 properly adapted to the shorter setup with a bull barrel.
The XD-40sc shares almost everything in common with the 9mm version of the pistol. It does upgrade to the more powerful .40 S&W cartridge but the magazine capacity shrinks to just 9 rounds in the standard compact magazine. Finishes include black, bi-tone, and even an OD green frame option.
The XD-9sc sub-compact pistol from Springfield Armory carries 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition by default but can be expanded to 16 with the use of extended magazines. Features shared in common with larger models include safety systems, finish choices, accessory rail, and the Springfield Lifetime Guarantee.
